VLSI History

Hello world! So, the Moore's law has come to an end and it's time for the world to introduce new breakthroughs and principles in Semiconductor industry.

But, Let us look back at the historical timeline of this industry:

  • Invention of transistor at Bell Labs (1947) replacing vacuum tubes.
  • Jack Kilby (1958) built the first ever integrated circuit flip-flop using 2 transistors at Texas Instruments.
  • Early 1960s - Small-Scale Integration (SSI), which on improvement later led to the development of solid-state devices consisting hundreds of Logic Gates, which is called Medium-Scale Integration (MSI). Similarly, on further development, this evolution led to the birth of LSI and VLSI in 1970s and 1980s.
